Location: Garland, Texas

Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Position Summary: Firewheel Christian Academy is seeking a passionate and dedicated Early Childcare Provider/Teacher to join our Early Childhood Learning Center team. This role is crucial in providing a safe, engaging, and Christ-centered environment for young children (12mos-K3). The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about working with children, possess excellent communication skills, and uphold the values of Firewheel Christian Academy.

Responsibilities:

  • Child Supervision and Safety:
  • Ensure the constant supervision and safety of all children in the after-school program.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Implement and enforce age-appropriate safety rules and procedures.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to any incidents or emergencies, providing basic first aid as needed (training provided/required).
  • Monitor children for signs of emotional or developmental concerns and report them to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Activity Planning and Implementation:
  • Plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Organize and facilitate playtime, creative arts, quiet activities, and outdoor play.
  • Assist children with homework as needed.
  • Encourage positive social interaction and teamwork among children.
  • Child Care and Support:
  • Assist with snack time, ensuring proper hygiene and nutritional guidelines are followed.
  • Help children with personal hygiene routines as necessary (e.g., handwashing, potty training).
  • Provide comfort and emotional support to children as needed.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, demonstrating patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding their child's daily activities, progress, and any concerns.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and supportive after-school program.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Adherence to Standards:
  • Strictly adhere to all Texas Minimum Standards for Childcare Centers, as outlined by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Child Care Regulation.

Texas Minimum Standards for Childcare Employees (Required):

  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Educational Requirement: Must possess a high school diploma, a high school equivalent, or a high school certificate of coursework completion as defined in the Texas Education Code, §28.025(d).
  • Background Checks: Must pass all required background checks, including criminal history, sex offender registry, and child abuse or neglect findings, as specified in 40 TAC Chapter 745, Subchapter F.
  • Tuberculosis Examination: Must have a current medical record showing freedom from contagious tuberculosis, if required by the Texas Department of State Health Services or local health authority.
  • Employment Affidavit: Must complete a notarized Licensing Affidavit for Applicants for Employment form as specified in the Human Resources Code, §42.059.
  • Training:
  • Complete required pre-service training hours, including topics such as developmental stages of children, age-appropriate activities, positive guidance and discipline, supervision and safety practices, preventing communicable diseases, and fostering self-esteem.
  • Complete pediatric first aid and CPR training within 90 days of employment and maintain current certification.
  • Fulfill ongoing annual training requirements as mandated by Texas Child Care Regulation.
  • All training is pad for and provided by Firewheel Christian Academy.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting preferred.
  • Understanding of child development principles and age-appropriate activities.
  • Ability to manage groups of children effectively and positively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Patience, creativity, and a genuine love for working with children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the Christian mission and values of Firewheel Christian Academy.
