Description

If you’re looking for a job where you get paid to “do the right thing” then look no further. At the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, our sole purpose is to protect the rights and safety of the public by seeking the truth and pursuing justice.

SUMMER LEGAL INTERNSHIP & SEMESTER IN PRACTICE

Step into the courtroom from day one. The Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office offers 2L and 3L law students an unparalleled opportunity to practice law, not just observe it. If you're passionate about criminal justice and ready to make an immediate impact on your community, this is your chance to gain hands-on courtroom experience that will set you apart in your legal career.

WHO WE ARE

As the largest law office in Southwest Missouri, we are ministers of justice dedicated to ensuring fairness, effectiveness, and efficiency through advocacy and community leadership. Our award-winning team of prosecutors handles everything from traffic violations to complex felony cases, and we're committed to mentoring the next generation of legal professionals.

WHERE YOU'LL WORK

Springfield, Missouri offers the perfect balance for launching your legal career. With a population of 169,000, you'll enjoy big-city amenities—world-class healthcare, vibrant entertainment, rich cultural experiences—without the stress and expense. Nestled in the scenic Ozarks, Springfield provides exceptional outdoor recreation, a welcoming community, affordable living, and a quality of life that lets you focus on what matters: becoming an excellent attorney.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Prosecute real cases under Rule 13 supervision—from your first week

Handle bond hearings, preliminary hearings, motions, and trials

Work on cases spanning the full spectrum of criminal law, from misdemeanors to serious felonies

Conduct witness interviews and prepare witnesses for testimony

Draft charging documents, motions, and legal memoranda

Collaborate with law enforcement and victim advocates

Make judgment calls that directly impact public safety and justice

WHAT WE OFFER

Immediate courtroom experience that exceeds what most new attorneys get in their first year of practice

Direct mentorship from experienced prosecutors who are invested in your development

Structured training and professional development tailored to your skill level

Exposure to diverse practice areas and case types that will inform your career direction

The satisfaction of serving your community and protecting public safety

A supportive, team-oriented environment where your contributions matter

Practical skills that will make you competitive in any legal market

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

2L or 3L law students eligible for practice under Missouri Supreme Court Rule 13

Strong academic credentials and excellent legal writing skills

Demonstrated commitment to public service and the pursuit of justice

Effective oral advocacy and communication abilities

Team-oriented mindset with integrity and professionalism

Desire to take on responsibility and learn through real-world experience

WHY CHOOSE PROSECUTION

Unlike private sector internships where you might spend months on research and document review, you'll be in court making arguments, examining witnesses, and developing the trial skills that define great lawyers. You'll work on cases that shape public policy and protect vulnerable members of your community.

READY TO START YOUR LEGAL CAREER?

If you're ready to step beyond the classroom and into the courtroom, we want to hear from you. Join a team that's committed to justice, invested in your growth, and ready to give you the experience you need to succeed.
