508 Subject Matter Expert I

We are seeking a 508 Subject Matter Expert I to support the FDIC in providing professional experience in bringing agency-wide awareness and implementation activities that emphasize key tenets of Section 508 compliance, which will bring added value to the workplace by institutionalizing Section 508 across all FDIC Program Offices.

Salary Range: $65,000-$90,000

Position Location: Remote/Telework Environment, may occasionally go onsite to the FDIC locations as requested.

Required Certificates: DHS Section 508 Trusted Testers (TT), version 5.0 or higher, and WCAG 2.1 (AA)

Required Tools Experience:

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro + CommonLook
  • Assistive tech (JAWS, NVDA, etc.)
  • Accessibility testing tools (Axe, etc.)

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or experience commensurate with the level of education.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar or associated role working with cross-functional teams and the customer.
  • Possesses excellent verbal, presentation, writing, and customer service skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, SharePoint, and other communications-related software programs

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • FDIC or government contracting experience

Key Responsibilities/Requirements:

Overall Section 508 Governance

  • Supports the agency and Section 508 Lead in ensuring Section 508 is integrated into:
  • SDLC review checkpoints
  • Agile sprint cycles

Reporting

  • Provide data and feedback for weekly status reports
  • Attend scheduled and ad hoc team and stakeholder virtual meetings as needed
  • Support the delivery of the OMB Annual Reporting
  • Execute testing for selected ICT requests
  • Provide detailed scoring analysis across ICT categories
  • Contribute technical data and findings for reporting packages

Section 508 Testing & Compliance

  • Perform Section 508 testing using DHS Trusted Tester Methodology (v5.0+)
  • Test across ICT types:
  • Web applications
  • Mobile applications
  • Electronic documents (PDF, Word, etc.)
  • Software
  • Hardware
  • Multimedia
  • Ensure testing is completed for:
  • Major version upgrades
  • Major functionality changes
  • Conduct testing within agile sprints (embedded testing model)
  • Validate accessibility compliance throughout the development lifecycle

IT Acquisition Support

  • Review accessibility requirements in acquisitions
  • Provide correct Section 508 language for:
  • Statements of Work (SOWs)
  • Procurement documentation

Technical Assistance & SME Support

  • Respond to 508-specific technical questions
  • Provide remediation guidance and best practices
  • Deliver hands-on support (virtual and on-site) to teams
  • Provides support for all agency disability awareness events

Training and Program Support

  • Assist in developing up-to-date 508 training materials
  • Support delivery of training sessions (SME contributor)
