Responsibilities
- Answer multi-line phone systems promptly and professionally, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and communication skills.
- Assess emergency calls through phone triage, gathering essential information using medical terminology, law enforcement protocols, and analysis skills.
- Dispatch police, fire, EMS, or other emergency responders accurately using GPS and GIS technology to determine precise locations.
- Provide critical instructions to callers on first aid procedures, CPR, or other medical assistance while coordinating with emergency teams.
- Maintain detailed records through data entry and transcription of call information, incident reports, and shift logs with high accuracy.
- Manage conflict situations with calm negotiation and conflict management techniques to de-escalate distressed callers.
- Operate multi-line phone systems efficiently while handling multiple calls simultaneously under pressure.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must have a valid Michigan drivers license and be eligible to drive
- Must submit to a background check
- Must maintain a direct 24/7 phone number to be contacted
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be able to handle high stress situations for a long period of time
- Must be able to sit or stand up to 12 hours a day
- Must be able to type at least 35 words per minute
- Must be familiar with Windows and e-mail programs
- Must be able to work nights, holidays, and weekends without exception, 911 is a 24/7 operation
- Must be able to work reasonable amounts of overtime, sometimes on short notice
- Must have the ability to focus and multi-task
- Must have good hearing, good vision including ability to see color and dexterity
- Must be able to read, speak and communicate English clearly
- Must be able to pass a physical and drug testing
- Must have previous employment of 6 months or more in a customer service related job
- Strong understanding of GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS technology, and law enforcement, fire service and EMS procedures.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, first aid practices, and basic rescue protocols.
- Demonstrated analysis skills for assessing situations quickly and making sound decisions.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey clear instructions over the phone in high-stress scenarios.
- Proficiency in typing, data entry, transcription, and managing multi-line phone systems efficiently.
- Ability to handle security-sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Residing in Ogemaw County or within 50 Miles of Ogemaw County is preferred.
Pay: From $19.85 per hour
