The Sheriff’s Department is hiring a highly motivated and dependable Communications Officer (911 Dispatcher) to join our team. This position plays a critical role in public safety by answering 911 calls, dispatching law enforcement, and emergency responders, and coordinating vital communications during routine and crisis situations. Communications Officers serve as the lifeline between the public and first responders, working in a fast-paced environment where calm decision-making, attention to detail, and strong multitasking skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer and prioritize 911 emergency and non-emergency calls, gathering essential information quickly and accurately.
  • Dispatch law enforcement units and maintain continuous radio contact with officers in the field.
  • Enter, monitor, update, records in MULES/NCIC and internal law enforcement databases.
  • Relay critical information regarding wanted persons, missing persons, stolen property, warrants, and officer safety alerts.
  • Maintain accurate logs, complaint numbers, and call documentation.
  • Monitor security cameras, weather alerts, and communication channels; notify personnel as needed.
  • Handle confidential information with the highest level of integrity and discretion.
  • Dispatching and paging fire departments and coordinating radio traffic during fire or rescue responses.
  • Provide clear, compassionate support to callers in crisis while maintaining professionalism and composure.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure or emergency situations.
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and data entry skills.
  • Ability to learn and operate MULES/NCIC, CAD, multi-line phone systems, and radio equipment.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and required certifications.
  • Prior dispatch or public safety experience is helpful but not required (training provided).

Work Environment

  • 24/7 operation with 12 hour rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends.
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented communications center.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, typing, and monitoring screens and radio traffic.
