Job Summary
Join our dedicated emergency communication team as a 911 Telecommunicator / Dispatcher, where your quick thinking and compassionate communication skills will be vital in providing life-saving assistance. In this fast-paced role, you will serve as the critical link between callers in distress and first responders, ensuring rapid response to emergencies. Your expertise will help coordinate law enforcement, fire services, EMS, and other emergency agencies to deliver timely aid while maintaining calm and professionalism under pressure. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in your community while developing essential skills in emergency dispatching. This position will be hired for night shift.
Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency calls from the public using multi-line phone systems, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and communication skills.
- Gather vital information from callers through active listening, phone triage, and medical terminology to assess the nature of the emergency accurately.
- Dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, medical, or other emergency services promptly using GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools for precise location tracking.
- Provide clear instructions to callers on first aid procedures, basic medical assistance, or safety protocols while maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Enter data accurately into dispatch systems, including incident details, caller information, and response actions, ensuring thorough documentation and transcription.
- Coordinate with first responders via radio communication, providing real-time updates and support during ongoing incidents.
- Manage conflict situations effectively through negotiation and conflict management skills to de-escalate tense interactions with distressed callers or individuals involved in emergencies.
Requirements
- Familiarity with GIS mapping software, GPS technology, and multi-line phone systems enhances dispatch efficiency. (will train)
- Strong analysis skills for assessing situations quickly and determining appropriate response actions.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally over the phone and radio channels.
- Proficiency in typing, data entry, transcription, and maintaining detailed logs of all communications and incidents.
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, security protocols, and basic first aid or CPR certification is preferred.(will train)
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly while demonstrating strong conflict management and negotiation abilities.
- Must possess good organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate record keeping and incident reporting.
