Your Role as a Teacher

Planning & Instruction

Teach 3 of 4 classes on an alternating A/B 90-minute block schedule, serving students every other day within your assigned content area.

Facilitate one 30-minute Personalized Learning Time (PLT) block focused on academic intervention, enrichment, credit recovery, or targeted skill development using programs such as Edgenuity, ACT Prep platforms, or content-specific supports.

Engage in Unit Internalization and Curriculum Planning using school-adopted instructional materials and submit weekly lesson plan arcs that include rigorous objectives, aligned assessments, and teacher exemplars.

Collaborate during your daily planning block, including:

  • Co-planning with department members

  • Weekly coaching meetings for instructional feedback

  • Biweekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings to analyze academic data and refine instructional strategies

Track and analyze academic and behavioral data using school-wide systems. Maintain timely and accurate grade submissions to ensure students and families remain informed of progress.

Implement appropriate supports and accommodations for English Language Learners (ELL) and students with diverse learning needs across all instructional settings.

Consistently utilize instructional technology and school platforms (e.g., Google Suite, Infinite Campus, Kickboard) to support instruction, communication, and progress monitoring.

School Duties & Expectations

Maintain an 8:00 am – 4:00 pm workday, including assigned morning arrival and afternoon dismissal duties.

Participate in Staff Huddles at the start and end of each week (Monday and Friday mornings).

Serve weekly duty assignments (lunch, hallway, or transition supervision) on a rotating basis within your department or grade band.

Attend weekly department or grade-level meetings held before the school day begins.

Engage in ongoing professional development, including:

  • 3 weeks of summer faculty training

  • Biweekly after-school professional learning sessions on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays

Contribute to school-wide events, including family engagement nights, academic showcases, and student recognition programs throughout the year.

Estimated time commitment outside the 8:00 am–4:00 pm workday is approximately 30 hours per school year (may vary).

Student Mentorship & Advisory

Serve as an advisor to a small cohort of students, fostering academic monitoring, goal-setting, and social-emotional development.

Deliver advisory or SEL-based lessons aligned to state standards and school priorities.

Supervise and participate in school-wide activities such as Walk & Talk sessions, Club Days, field trips, assemblies, and special programming events.

Uphold and model the school’s values, culture systems, and student management policies consistently.

Maintain classroom management of Tier 1 behaviors and follow the progressive discipline matrix when needed.

Track and input behavior data into Kickboard to ensure clear communication with families, school leaders, and the culture team.

Participate in Grade-Level Community Meetings recognizing scholars who exemplify our core values: integrity, imagination, drive, collaboration, and inquiry.

Student Mentorship & Circle Facilitation

  • Uphold and model the school’s values, student management policies, and culture systems consistently
  • Maintain classroom management of Tier 1 behaviors and follow the consequence matrix for progressive discipline
  • Deliver Morning Mindfulness lessons in homeroom aligned to SEL state standards
  • Participate in weekly Grade Level Community Meetings recognizing scholars who exemplify school values: integrity, imagination, drive, collaboration, and inquiry
  • Track and input student behavior data in Kickboard for communication with families, school leaders, and the culture team

Role Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor's degree
  • Must be able to secure a teaching permit if not licensed
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship
  • Must pass MNPS background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • An active Tennessee teaching license with an endorsement relevant to the subject
