Academic and Test Prep Tutors (SAT/ACT) - In Person (West Los Angeles and South Bay)

Achieve Tutorials is hiring one or more experienced tutors for in-person, in-home tutoring across West Los Angeles and the South Bay. Common areas include Santa Monica, Brentwood, Westwood, Mar Vista, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, and Torrance. We’re a boutique practice with excellent long-term clients. Families are respectful, engaged, and reliable, which makes the work productive and enjoyable. Tutors often stay with us long-term because the work is professional, well-supported, and sustainable.

This role is a fit for tutors who want a professional, well-run environment: professional standards, tutor-managed scheduling with families, and clear policies that protect tutors’ time (including our 24-hour cancellation policy).

You do not need to teach every subject we offer or cover both the SAT and ACT. We are open to different strengths, including tutors who focus primarily on academics and tutors who focus primarily on test prep. While most of our tutors cover multiple areas, others focus on a smaller subset of tests or subjects.

Company Description:

Achieve Tutorials is a long-established, boutique tutoring company in Los Angeles. We work with a limited number of families at a time and prioritize quality, consistency, and trust. We aim to make tutoring sustainable and professional for tutors and effective for students. Families receive clear expectations, and tutors receive clear communication and support.

Role Description:

This is a part-time  role tutoring middle school and high school students in a one-on-one setting.

Most students are ongoing weekly clients, not one-off sessions. Your job is to help students improve skills, confidence, and results, whether that is standardized test performance, academic performance, or both.

Tutoring may include, depending on your strengths and student demand:

  • SAT and/or ACT instruction
  • Academic tutoring across middle and high school subjects (math, English, sciences, history, and study skills)
  • Organization, study planning, and test-taking strategy when appropriate

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-home tutoring sessions in West Los Angeles and the South Bay
  • Teach in a clear, structured way and adapt to different learning styles
  • Assign targeted practice and keep sessions goal-focused
  • Track progress and communicate clearly with families and our office
  • Maintain a calm, professional presence with students and parents

Schedule and Hours:

This is a part-time role. Hours vary based on student demand, your availability, and your subject/test strengths. Many tutors start with a small weekly schedule and build over time. Tutors coordinate session times directly with families in accordance with company policies.

This role works well for experienced professionals seeking meaningful, well-compensated part-time work that can fit around other commitments.

Compensation and Policies:

This is a W-2 position. Pay is competitive and based on experience and subjects/tests taught: $50–$80+/hour.

We have a clear 24-hour cancellation policy so tutors’ time is respected and schedules stay stable.

Mileage reimbursement is available for eligible tutoring travel (details provided during hiring).

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of tutoring and/or teaching experience with middle school and high school students (test prep and/or academics). Elementary experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional presence with families
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to student homes across West Los Angeles and the South Bay
  • Dependable scheduling and responsiveness
  • Ability to keep sessions organized, student-centered, and results-focused

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • SAT and/or ACT tutoring experience
  • Strength in one or more high school academic subjects
  • Reading/writing instruction, academic writing support, or study skills coaching
  • Experience supporting anxious students or students with learning differences

Work environment:

Tutors work independently with families while following clear company policies and professional standards. We take professional boundaries seriously and have clear policies to ensure tutors are treated with respect in all client interactions. We prioritize respectful communication, appropriate boundaries, and a supportive learning environment for students.

Achieve Tutorials is committed to a respectful, professional workplace and is an equal opportunity employer.

To apply:

Please apply even if you don’t cover every test/subject listed. We welcome qualified applicants with a variety of professional paths, including those returning to work or building a flexible professional schedule.

Submit a resume and a short note that includes:

  • Which tests and subjects you tutor most confidently
  • Your typical student grade range and summary of your experience
  • Your weekly availability and general travel comfort within West Los Angeles and the South Bay
