JOB TITLE: Academic Assistant

STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Loudoun County (Leesburg, Waterford), Virginia.

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.

COMPENSATION: $20-$24/hour


Position Summary

Mission Prep Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Academic Assistant to support our Education Coordinators in delivering educational programming to adolescents. This role is ideal for individuals who are patient, adaptable, and passionate about helping students succeed academically and personally.

The Academic Assistant works closely with Education Coordinators in a classroom setting to help supervise students, assist with educational activities, and provide both academic and behavioral support. This position plays an important role in maintaining a positive and productive learning environment while supporting students’ overall development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Education Coordinators in preparing the classroom and organizing educational materials.

  • Help manage classroom equipment and inventory, including photocopying and organizing lesson materials.

  • Support instructional activities, including providing one-on-one tutoring when needed.

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and trauma-informed learning environment, including providing support during times of crisis.

  • Assist with classroom supervision to ensure a positive and productive learning atmosphere.

  • Serve as a liaison between the academic team, clients, and parents when appropriate.

  • Provide individualized support to students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges.

  • Monitor student progress and communicate observations to Education Coordinators.

  • Encourage student participation, engagement, and positive relationship-building.

  • Enforce classroom expectations and guide students in developing appropriate academic and social behaviors.

  • Maintain accurate records of student assignments, goals, and progress.

  • Collaborate with Education Coordinators and program staff to support individual student needs.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum 6 months of experience working with adolescents in an educational setting.

  • CPR/First Aid Certification required.

  • Current TB clearance required.

  • Must successfully complete ADP Selective Screening Services background check and any other required state, federal, or company background checks.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Familiarity with classroom technology and educational tools.

  • Ability to select and use appropriate instructional methods and learning strategies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate professionally with students, families, and staff.

  • Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Workspace (G Suite).

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including phones, printers, scanners, and copiers.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism, a positive attitude, and collaborative working relationships.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work on a computer and use electronic systems.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and verbal formats.

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to climb stairs.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

  • Strong listening and reading comprehension skills.
