Job Description

The Academic Intervention Services Staff role is to provide academic support to identified students. This position is a great opportunity for people pursuing a teaching career. The AIS Specialist will provide a variety of services to students that are intended to supplement instruction provided by the general curriculum and to assist students in meeting or exceeding the State Learning Standards. The services will be provided in a large learning lab setting as well as in small group pull-outs and one on one tutoring. It is essential for the AIS Staff to track and monitor student data on a daily basis to provide the most targeted support possible. The expectation is that AIS staff are responsible for demonstrating significant, measureable academic gains with the students they work with. In addition to providing academic services the AIS specialist will work with students to address all barriers to academic success. Like all staff, AIS Staff will teach students to become independent learners, participate in professional training, and are observed and coached weekly.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to, follow, and implement academic procedures as outlined
  • Use online software to monitor student work and review student data
  • Collaborate with school staff in the enforcement and implementation of school rules to promote positive student behavior
  • Teach a class in their specialty area as needed
  • Communicate with parents on a regular basis
  • Work in a learning lab of approximately 16-40 students, ensuring that students are actively engaged with their computer-supported instruction
  • Work closely and in tandem with Preceptors who lead the learning teams of students to ensure educational outcomes
  • Collaborate with SPED teacher(s) to provide appropriate services to students with special needs
  • Assess student learning daily and provide appropriate interventions
  • Integrate character education and school values into every aspect of instruction
  • Contribute to the professional community and embody school culture

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Vertus: mission, values, culture, and goals
  • Experience working with students 7-12
  • Ability to form strong relationships with students
  • Demonstrated success raising the achievement of urban students
  • Experience using data to drive instruction/practice
  • Content knowledge of multiple high school core subjects (Humanities or STEM)
  • Systems thinker with strong data and analytical skills, including presenting data in clear, user-friendly formats
  • Ability to take and implement feedback and coaching
  • Collaborative working style, able to work as part of a tight-knit team
  • Willingness to have difficult conversations with students regarding academic performance
  • Capability to motivate students and problem solve solutions when they get stuck
  • Ambition to go above and beyond the requirements of the job to innovate in education and advance as an educator and a leader

Required Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)

1 year of experience (preferred)

Candidates progressing beyond the initial phone interview must be available for an on-site interview as scheduled.
