Job Description

Centralia College is accepting applications for the position of Academic Intervention Specialist/Technician and Head Men's Soccer Coach. This position reports to the Dean of Student Success and the Director of Athletics.

The role as an Academic Intervention Technician maintains the accuracy and quality of the ConexED. In addition, this position assists students by providing educational navigation and resource assistance and promoting student retention through support services, new student orientations, and ongoing collaboration with faculty and staff.


The Academic Intervention Technician is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing the institution's Early Alert tool to support student success and retention initiatives. This role ensures timely identification of at-risk students and facilitates communication between faculty, advisors, and student support services.

In addition, the role as Head Coach works with campus departments, and Athletic commissioners to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) in areas including but not limited to; recruiting, letters of intent, eligibility, scheduling and travel, and preparing student-athletes for competition.

Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Intervention Duties (30%):

  • Maintain and update the Early Alert platform, ensuring functionality and data integrity.
  • Actively support Early Alert processes with a focus on new feature configuration, troubleshooting, training, and technical assistance.
  • Collaborate with vendor/partner on resources and timelines.
  • Maintain day-to-day operations to meet assignment/deliverable deadlines.
  • Work as an integral part of the advising team(s) to support and advance student success efforts, particularly related to technology solutions.
  • Support stakeholder groups including implementation teams, guided pathways teams, Employee Learning & Development, Dean Team, Advising & Entry Services, etc.
  • Actively engage in institutional work to remove barriers to student success, particularly regarding racial equity.
  • Provide communication and reports to stakeholders through regular meetings and communication plan.
  • Track project timelines, prioritize, and organize tasks in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Support the Early Alert Technical Team with any post-implementation changes or system upgrades.
  • Support efforts to monitor and evaluate the success of the Early Alert platform across a variety of metrics, including student persistence, retention, and completion.
  • Work with and support end users on new functionality and determine effect on current systems and business processes.

Project Management and Data Tracking (30%):

  • Become "super user" and trainer in order to serve as an ongoing resource for Early Alert users (students, staff, and faculty).
  • Serve as the point of contact for Early Alert Systems.
  • Serve as the primary college resource on Early Alert.
  • Collaborate with college teams focused on racial equity, retention, completion, and keeping students focused on their pathway in order to align the Early Alert processes with the specific goals and directions of the division of Learning and Student Success and the college as a whole.
  • Maintain operating procedures to guide application usage.
  • Monitor activities for compliance with college regulatory policy (e.g. FERPA).
  • Monitor/modify roles, permissions, and assignments in the system.
  • Develop/maintain resources that can be shared and accessed readily by Early Alert users.
  • Provide recommendations for system/utilization improvement and new features.
  • Provide detailed reporting and documentation as required by college administration.
  • Work with college administrators on data needs.
  • Work with Office of Institutional Research for the purposes of data tracking, evaluation, and reporting.

Coaching Duties (40%):

  • Conduct the appropriate Athletic program in accordance with the established rules and regulations of Centralia College and the NWAC.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of all eligibility rules and assist the athletic department staff with assuring that all student-athletes are aware of the rules, and that all appropriate information regarding eligibility is shared with the Director of Athletics.
  • Oversee recruiting by ensuring assistant coaches are recruiting quality student-athletes in accordance with the rules and regulations of the college and the NWAC.
  • Promote a positive environment for learning and development that supports the goals and objectives of the department's Academic Success Program and assists student athletes with achieving their academic goals.
  • Support the development, coordination, and implementation of departmental fundraisers ensuring student athlete participation.
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Athletics for assistant coaching assignments and establish individual responsibilities of her/his coaching staff.
  • Assist game management personnel with all preparations for event support at all home contests. Assist with the planning for all team travel in conjunction with athletic department staff, to include the safe transport of team members to all away contests.
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Athletics regarding the awarding of letters of intent and financial awards.
  • Provide comprehensive instruction regarding individual skill development and team strategies specific to the appropriate sport. Make recommendations for the purchase of uniforms and equipment, following the college's purchasing procedures. Maintain inventory for all team equipment.
  • Ensure timely submission of all reports, contest results, and statistical information.
  • Attend all required department meetings, and all associated NWAC coaches' meetings.
  • Ensure rosters are full prior to the season and maintained during the season.
  • Perform related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND at least 2 years of experience preparing youth for college/working with first generation college students.
  • At least 2 years of program management experience.
  • At least 2 years of case management experience working with youth and families.
  • Two years of successful coaching experience in the appropriate sport at the high school, advanced club, or college level.
  • Knowledge of NWAC rules and regulations.
  • Experience working in a high school or college setting.
  • Experience working with college aged individuals. Experience with student/athletes.

Position Related Credential Requirements

  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain upon hiring).
  • Current unrestricted Washington State driver's license, with proof of insurability (or ability to obtain upon hiring) Ability to successfully complete the NWAC Coaches Certification within one month of hire.
  • Commitment to a philosophy promoting student success.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience communicating with ethnically and culturally diverse adolescents.
  • Experience managing large numbers of students/clients while maintaining quality service.
  • Experience using computer applications such as word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, database and desktop publishing software.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Conditions of Employment

This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time professional technical exempt position. The salary is $74,000-77,250 (DOQ/DOE) annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.
