Academic Support Professional

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Academic Support Professional is responsible for providing academic guidance, skill-building, and educational support for youth in out-of-school time programs. This role supports the Academic Coordinator by assisting with the planning, implementation, and

facilitation of academic enrichment programs. The Academic Support Professional will help

ensure a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where students can achieve their educational goals and build essential academic skills.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

• Support Student Learning & Skill Development

o Assist students in improving academic performance through homework help, tutoring, and project-based learning activities.

o Implement structured academic support sessions that align with school curricula and student learning goals.

o Reinforce literacy, numeracy, and STEM-related skills through engaging, hands-on activities.

o Encourage critical thinking and problem-solving through interactive and group-based learning experiences.

• Program Implementation & Coordination

o Work closely with the Academic Coordinator to plan and deliver educational programs that cater to diverse learning needs.

o Maintain accurate academic progress records and provide timely updates on student achievements.

o Integrate technology-based learning tools to enhance student engagement and skill-building.

o Ensure program activities support school success, college readiness, and career development.

• Student Engagement & Support

o Foster a positive, growth-oriented environment that motivates students to set and achieve academic goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, or related field.

- Minimum of two years of experience in youth academic programming.

- Experience supporting middle school and teen academic and career readiness preferred.

- CPR, First Aid, and Mandated Reporter certification (or ability to obtain).

- Valid NYS Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to perform physical aspects of the position including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
