Accessibility Instructional Designer

Overview:
The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of effective faculty, staff, and student training and support in the LMS environment, instructional technologies, and innovation in accessible materials and digital content design and delivery. They will be expected to keep current with accessibility regulations and guidelines, as well as new technological developments in the field of online, hybrid, and web-enhanced education technologies and methodology.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Distance/Online Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technologies, Assistive Technologies, or other related disciplines. Expertise in the Learning Management Systems (D2L Brightspace preferred), including familiarity with basic end user LMS System Administration. Demonstrated skills in multimedia and web authoring tools. At least 2 years of demonstrated training and/or staff development experience in instructional technologies and pedagogy. Demonstrated knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines, including UDL principles, WCAG, ADA, and Section 508. Proficiency with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers and captioning tools) for varying disability needs. Ability to employ testing methodologies using assistive technology tools. Demonstrated organizational, conceptual and problem-solving/troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a tightly integrated unit. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Effective public speaking, presentation and listening skills.

Nature and Scope of Duties:
The Accessibility Instructional Designer reports to the Director for Distance and Online Learning or his/her desinee and performs the following duties:

• Works in a collaborative team environment with instructional designers and other support staff, delivering instructional design services for accessible distance and online learning projects.
• Translates accessibility compliance requirements into understandable criteria for faculty and staff.
• Designs, develops, and delivers digital accessibility training for faculty, staff, and students.
• Applies Universal Design for Learning (UDL) methods to ensure educational experiences are digitally accessible.
• Creates and maintains accessibility resources and documentation for the college community.
• Conducts accessibility reviews and audits to identify instructional content accessibility barriers in collaboration with faculty and identifies and implements remediation solutions.
• Provides assistance in the design, development and remediation of instructional content in collaboration with faculty that meet the college’s, state, and federal accessibility standards.
• Partners in efforts to evaluate and improve the accessibility of college content, tools, and systems.
• Identifies research and metrics to inform continuous improvement in digital accessibility.
• Advises on the selection of digital tools based on accessibility standards.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current regulations and requirements for institutions, states and federal entities, best practices in UDL and accessibility, including WCAG, ADA, Sections 504 and 508, etc.
• Engages with other campus partners (e.g., Center for Access and Assistive Technologies) to understand current perspectives from students with disabilities and to help create better student experiences.
• Participate in professional development activities such as workshops and conferences to keep current in instructional uses of technology and accessibility standards.

This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary range of $60,000-$62,000.
