Job Summary:
An Account Manager on the Expedite Team at VP Logistics plays a critical, customer-facing role focused on time-sensitive and high-touch freight solutions. While versed in all modes of transportation, this position works closely with freight forwarders and operates heavily within sprinter van and straight truck space, requiring strong knowledge of expedited ground solutions and the urgency that comes with them. Success in this position requires the ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, demonstrating urgency and proactive problem-solving to meet client needs. Although primarily customer-facing, this role also requires comfort and confidence working directly with carriers and, at times, managing shipments cradle-to-grave – from quoting and carrier sourcing to tracking, issue resolutions, and final delivery.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary liaison between the company and our customers, serving as the main point of contact for all matters related to assigned accounts.
  • Maintain and grow professional relationships with existing/assigned customer accounts.
  • Negotiate pricing with customers and make informed financial decisions based on company strategies, considering both customer and company freight spend.
  • Achieve monthly account GP$ targets and grow assigned accounts where possible.
  • Analyze and solve issues to arrive at solutions with little oversight from supervisors.
  • Build shipments in the TMS and schedule appointments in accordance with customer specifications.
  • With the “Raving Fans” mentality, provide solutions and maintain VPL’s commitment to an ELITE service standard.
  • Proactively provide updates and communications with speed and accuracy.
  • Collect hard copy of POD (proof of deliveries) from receiving locations as needed.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Gross Profit on accounts managed by the representative.
  • Number of active buying accounts managed on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Number of loads built, scheduled, and serviced on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Customer Satisfaction Feedback.

Supervisor Responsibilities:
None

Required Education / Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or freight brokerage, with a strong focus on expedited freight.
  • Proven experience working with freight forwarders and managing time-critical shipments.
  • Strong knowledge of sprinter van and straight truck capacity; familiarity with all modes of transportation (ground, air, FTL, LTL).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage customer relationships in a client-facing role.
  • Ability to manage shipments cradle-to-grave, including quoting, dispatching, tracking, issue resolutions, and billing coordination.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers, understand their requirements, address concerns and present solutions.
  • Excellent critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to be able to resolve issues is crucial.
  • Analytically driven to use customer service data to set and enforce service goals and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Proven organization skills and attention to detail with excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with different internal teams to ensure an elite level of service is provided to exceed customer expectations and be strong partners to our carriers.
  • Highly motivated, self-driven and enthusiastic about a fast-paced and at times a high-pressure environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Teams, Excel, etc.

  • Must be able to speak easily and communicate in writing and on a telephone for varying lengths of time and in random order.
