Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. Duties
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory standards
- Conduct account reconciliations including general ledger, bank, and subsidiary accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes efficiently using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or PeopleSoft
- Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with regulatory reporting requirements related to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and other compliance standards
- Support internal audits by providing documentation, explanations, and analysis of financial data
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis efforts to support organizational planning
- Maintain detailed records of all transactions, ensuring adherence to internal controls and accounting policies
- Mentor junior team members in technical accounting practices such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and financial report writing
Skills
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and regulatory reporting standards
- Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms
- Experience with governmental accounting practices and non-profit accounting is highly desirable
- Solid understanding of financial concepts such as balance sheet reconciliation, cash flow analysis, account analysis, and journal entries
- Expertise in financial statement preparation, interpretation of financial reports, and financial management techniques
- Familiarity with tax regulations including Wills, Trusts & Estate Law as applicable to nonprofit or private entities
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to perform detailed account reconciliation and variance analysis
- Effective communication skills for financial report writing and presenting complex data clearly
- Ability to mentor colleagues on technical accounting issues such as accrual accounting, audit procedures, and internal controls
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and financial modeling
