About the Role:

The General Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting operations in a fast-paced, construction environment, ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data. This role leads key components of the month-end process, including preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and supporting workpapers, while maintaining core accounting activities such as cash, fixed assets, and loan tracking. This position works closely with the Accounting Manager and Controller to support accurate financial reporting and a disciplined close process.

What You’ll Do:
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

  • Own the month-end close calendar, monitor progress against deadlines, and help ensure all close tasks are completed accurately and on time
  • Lead preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, and workpapers to ensure accounts are accurate and audit-ready
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including depreciation, cash movements, intercompany activity, and other assigned entries
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data and account balances
  • Assemble the monthly financial reporting packet by gathering reconciliations, supporting schedules, workpapers, and other required financial information for leadership review
  • Assist with year-end close and audit support as needed

Cash & Banking

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and ensure accurate recording of cash activity
  • Prepare and record cash movement journal entries across multiple entities
  • Support weekly payment cycles and related cash tracking activities

Fixed Assets & Equipment

  • Prepare and maintain fixed asset schedules, including depreciation entries
  • Track equipment loan activity and maintain related schedules and supporting documentation
  • Serve as the primary liaison with banks and equipment financing companies for equipment loans, including gathering requested documentation, preparing supporting information, and communicating directly with lenders throughout the financing process
  • Ensure proper recording of asset additions, disposals, and financing activity

Sales & Use Tax

  • Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax returns
  • Track and reconcile tax liabilities to the general ledger
  • Maintain supporting documentation and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations

General Accounting & Support

  • Record and reconcile intercompany transactions across entities
  • Maintain accurate general ledger activity and account coding
  • Support process improvements to strengthen accounting workflows and internal controls
  • Partner with internal teams to gather information needed for accurate financial reporting

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting software systems.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and best practices.
  • Experience with WIP reporting, job cost tracking, or construction accounting preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to follow through on assigned responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with employees across different departments and levels of the organization.
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and remain flexible in a project-based environment.
