Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for managing the financial records, accounting transactions, and financial reporting of the law firm. The role ensures compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies while supporting the firm's financial operations, client billing, and trust account management.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
  • Record daily financial transactions, including receipts, payments, journal entries, and bank transactions.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and general ledger accounts.
  • Monitor cash flow and assist with budgeting and forecasting.

Client Billing & Accounts Receivable

  • Prepare and issue client invoices based on legal services provided.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding client payments.
  • Coordinate with lawyers and administrative staff regarding billing matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of client payments and outstanding balances.

Accounts Payable

  • Process supplier invoices and employee expense claims.
  • Prepare payment schedules and ensure timely settlement of obligations.
  • Maintain vendor records and reconcile supplier statements.

Trust Account Management

  • Maintain and reconcile client trust accounts in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor client funds held in trust and ensure proper authorization of transactions.
  • Prepare trust account reports and supporting documentation.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with local tax laws, VAT regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns and other statutory filings.
  • Assist external auditors during annual audits.
  • Maintain proper documentation for financial transactions and regulatory inspections.

Payroll Administration

  • Process monthly payroll and related employee benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and payroll regulations.
  • Maintain payroll records and employee compensation data.

Financial Controls

  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls.
  • Assist in developing accounting procedures and policies.
  • Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, VAT regulations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
