Role Summary
This is a combined accounting and office administration position reporting directly to the executive team. You'll handle full-cycle accounting for the business, including the scale-ticket and cash-control discipline unique to scrap, while managing the day-to-day administration, compliance records, and front-office functions of the yard.
What You'll Do
Accounting
- Manage full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable, including reconciling scale tickets against material purchases and sales
- Process supplier payments and customer invoicing; administer cash/check disbursements for inbound material in line with company controls
- Run payroll and timekeeping for hourly and salaried staff
- Perform bank and account reconciliations; maintain the general ledger and close the books monthly
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports for ownership
- Handle sales/use tax filings and coordinate year-end and income tax work
- Prepare 1099s; maintain W-9s and vendor records
- Track and value ferrous/nonferrous inventory in coordination with operations
- Maintain internal controls over cash handling and regulated-material transactions
Office Administration & Compliance
- Maintain Texas metal-recycling compliance records and reporting (DPS / regulated material), business licenses, permits, and insurance renewals
- Keep digital and physical records organized (contracts, COIs, vendor/customer files)
- Order and manage office supplies and support general office operations
- Support HR administration — onboarding paperwork, benefits enrollment, and recordkeeping — alongside the safety/HR lead
- Assist with scheduling, purchasing document preparation, and ad hoc reporting
What You Need (Required)
- Bilingual English/Spanish (spoken and written) — required for our market and customer base
- 10+ years of full-cycle accounting experience, including AP/AR and payroll
- Proficiency with QuickBooks (or comparable accounting software) and Excel
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and discretion handling confidential financial information
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field — or equivalent experience
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
Nice to Have (Preferred)
- Experience in scrap/recycling, manufacturing, or industrial/yard operations
- Familiarity with ERP systems
- Experience with Texas metal-recycling reporting / DPS compliance
- Sales tax filing and payroll software experience
- Notary public, or willingness to obtain
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
