Job Description – Accountant
Richmond Ballet, the State Ballet of Virginia, seeks an Accountant to join a dynamic and diverse team of arts professionals at one of the region’s most admired and accomplished ballet companies.
This role supports Richmond Ballet’s finance department by performing daily financial data entry tasks, preparing financial reports, managing accounts payable and receivables and supporting month end close.
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintains database management system to maintain up-to-date record keeping of financial documents
- Post and process journal entries to ensure all transactions are recorded
- Weekly review of and recording of development gift reports
- Weekly recording of ticket sales from reports received from Box Office
- Weekly recording of School of Richmond Ballet payments (tuition, merchandise sales, birthday parties, etc.)
- Initiate accounts payable process including review of and coding of invoices and executing check runs and electronic payments, with final approval by Controller
- Perform monthly account reconciliations
- Create and send invoices out for various departments
- Ensure accurate input and GL coding of all invoices
- Assist education department with developing the annual budget for the School of Richmond Ballet
- Provide statistics and information to other departments as needed, grant applications and other reporting as needed
- Identify and assist with system upgrades and process improvement initiatives to streamline accounting workflows and enhance accuracy
- Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions
- Daily monitoring of bank accounts and positive pay
- Open and distribute incoming mail daily in the presence of a second employee
- Monthly filing of Admissions & Meals and Sales & Uses taxes with the City of Richmond
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are within the scope of the job.
Education/ Experience:
- BS in Accounting, Finance or Business preferred;
- 2-3 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in a non-profit organization;
- Prior experience in financial reporting;
- Prior experience with NetSuite preferred;
- Prior payroll experience a plus;
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
