POSITION: Accounting Analyst

REPORTS TO: Assistant Controller

STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt

RANGE: $68,000 - $80,000

Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is a distinguished, independent law school located in Downtown Brooklyn, New York. The Law School is searching for a Accounting Analyst to join our team. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Accounting Analyst supports the accuracy and integrity of the Law School’s financial data and assists with monthly close, audits, and routine financial reporting. This is a hands-on role focused on execution, learning, and building technical accounting depth within a higher education environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with monthly and year-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and subledgers under supervision.
  • Support investment, cash, and balance sheet reconciliations as assigned.
  • Assist with audit preparation, including gathering documentation and preparing audit schedules.
  • Perform routine account analysis and support variance explanations.
  • Assist with the preparation of internal financial reports and supporting schedules.
  • Follow established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Advancement, Financial Aid, Operations) to support accurate fund tracking and transaction processing.
  • Participate in financial system usage, data cleanup, and process improvements as directed.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP; exposure to nonprofit or fund accounting preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to manage and analyze large data sets.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established processes.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize assigned tasks.

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education or nonprofit organizations.
  • Prior exposure to audit processes or external auditors.

Remote capabilities:

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule, requiring a minimum in-office presence of four (4) days per week during the academic year when classes are in session and during exam periods. During the summer and academic breaks, when classes are not in session and exams are not being administered, a minimum of three (3) days per week of in-office presence is required.

Travel:

  • No travel is required.
