Accounting Analyst

Position Summary

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions in support of a government contracting organization. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with DCAA and other regulatory requirements, and practical support of month-end, year-end, and audit processes. The Accounting Specialist works closely with accounting leadership, program teams, and cross-functional departments to maintain financial integrity and support business operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP and government contracting requirements.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Utilize Unanet to manage general ledger activity, financial reporting, and timekeeping data.
  • Prepare financial reports and ad hoc analyses for internal management and external stakeholders.
  • Reconcile and monitor corporate credit card activity, ensuring proper coding, documentation, and compliance with company policy.
  • Process and support annual 1099 reporting, including vendor review, validation, and filings.
  • Assist with DCAA and other external audits, including preparation of audit schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Support compliance with FAR, DFARS, and other applicable government contracting regulations.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze complex Excel spreadsheets to support financial reporting and analysis.
  • Collaborate with program management, HR, payroll, and other departments to resolve accounting and reporting issues.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and support the implementation of enhanced accounting controls and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records in accordance with internal policies and audit requirements.

Required SkillsQualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in a government contracting environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with Unanet, including general ledger, financial reporting tools, and timekeeping.
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting:
    • DCAA and other external financial audits
    • Corporate credit card reconciliation
    • End-of-year 1099 processing
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex spreadsheets, formulas, and data analysis.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CRM system experience (preferred but not required).
  • Experience supporting indirect rate structures and cost pools in a government contracting environment.

Work EnvironmentPhysical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based environment.
  • Extended periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • Ability to meet deadlines during peak close and audit periods.
