Accounting and Finance Specialist

Job Overview

The Accounting and Finance Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting the financial management and operational excellence of Americans for Ben-Gurion University. The Accounting and Financial Specialist will be responsible for a wide range of accounting and operational duties, including accounts receivable, financial reconciliations, audit support, and regulatory compliance. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable

  • Process incoming payments, including checks, ACH transfers, and wire receipts by downloading payment details from our banking system and distributing the supporting documentation to the Development Support department.
  • Retrieve and review daily reports from third-party payment processors. Ensure reports agree to the bank deposit and include in the daily reconciliation.
  • Reconcile daily cash receipts in the bank to Salesforce reports to ensure all transactions are accounted for.
  • Perform account reconciliations, including bank reconciliation, prepaid accounts, and fixed assets and various other reconciliations as required.
  • Record stock donations in Salesforce, ensuring all supporting documentation is complete and properly maintained.

Accounts Payable

  • Provide backup support to the Accounts Payable function. Duties include entering invoices into the accounting system, processing the weekly payment runs including creating ACH batches and/or wire transfers.
  • Reconcile AP sub-ledger by comparing the AP Aging report to the general ledger.
  • Assist with reconciliation of travel and reimbursement systems and prepare related journal entries.

Financial Operations

  • Assist with annual audit preparation, including maintaining the master list of K‑1’s and preparing written confirmations for donors and outside trusts, and other requests as required.
  • Manage our annual state charitable registrations in coordination with third-party partners to ensure timely and accurate filings.
  • Various special projects as required.

Skills and Experience

We recognize that no candidate will match every qualification listed. The ideal candidate will bring relevant accounting experience—preferably within the nonprofit sector—and demonstrate strong technical skills, flexibility, and be an effective communicator.

Highly valued experience includes:

  • Experience working in organizations with significant philanthropic revenue.
  • Familiarity with banking software, financial reporting tools, and general ledger systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of three years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience with Financial Edge and Salesforce a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Excel and other MS Office applications. Demonstrate ability to create pivot tables, use sum if functions, and create v-lookups.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
