Job Summary:

The Accounting Assistant, under general supervision, is responsible for maintaining AR/AP, payroll, credit card, sales tax and other finance-related activities as assigned to support the Finance Director to maintain daily, weekly, and month-end financial activities. The Accounting Assistant will have broad responsibilities and be required to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Process AR and AP daily, including research necessarily to properly code/process transactions
• Review payroll transactions for accuracy, working with employees and supervisors to ensure accuracy and timeliness of entries
• Communicate with customers on past due invoices
• Review sales tax transactions for accuracy and ensure filings with the state agencies are correct
• Post inventory transactions in the accounting system
• Prepare and complete reconciliations of multiple financial accounts
• Maintain all appropriate records and file systems
• Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of coworkers
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Word
• Computerized accounting system experience
• Basic understanding of accounting concepts
• Experience in handling confidential information in a work environment

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

• 2+ years bookkeeping experience
• 1+ years payroll experience
• Experience with NetSuite or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

• High school degree or equivalent years of experience and training

Physical Requirements for the Job:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Salary Range: $20.00 - 24.00 per hour

Our salary ranges are benchmarked for the eastern Washington region and similar positions. The range listed is just one component of VMRD's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include bonuses.
