Accounting Assistant

The Accounting Assistant has a key role assisting in the Finance Department by performing general accounting responsibilities including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger transactions and assisting with payroll. Occasionally this position will serve as backup to the Reception area.

HOURS: Flexible. Monday through Friday, 20–23 hours a week.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: $25-28/hr. depending upon qualifications and experience. Our competitive benefits package includes pro-rated vacation, sick, personal, and holiday paid time off, maternity/paternity leave, 403(b) retirement fund and 403(b) matching.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is typically an on-site position located at 2670 Milwaukee St, Madison WI 53704 with a typical office environment setting. There will be an opportunity to go hybrid after complete training.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING:
This position requires the successful completion of a credit history review, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.

Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting

1. Assist the Accounting Manager with Payroll

2. Assist the finance department by performing general accounting responsibilities including but not limited to:

· Accounts Payable

· Accounts Receivable

· Local grants billing

· Maintain computer and paper files

· Obtain and organize backup for grants, cash receipts, and cash disbursements

3. Process checks and electronic payments

4. All other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Knowledge and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of basic accounting principles.

2. Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.

3. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

4. Attention to detail and accuracy.

5. Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others.

6. Experience with technology, including modern office methods and procedures.

B. Experience: Required

1. A minimum of one-year accounting or bookkeeping experience, or equivalent education.

2. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook).

3. Familiarity with computerized accounting software
