Accounting Clerk — Brookgreen Gardens

About the Role
Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Clerk is primarily responsible for accounts receivable functions, including invoicing, posting payments, account reconciliations, and collections follow-up.
This role also manages daily cash operations, including preparing and processing deposits, verifying reports, and posting transactions to the general ledger, while supporting accounts payable, audit preparation, and POS updates.
What You’ll Do
  • Prepare and process daily cash deposits, verify reports, and post transactions to the general ledger
  • Make cash drawers and receive banks from operating departments
  • Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, posting payments, and reconciling accounts
  • Assist with collections of past-due invoices
  • Reconcile various accounts to the general ledger
  • Coordinate POS product and pricing updates with department managers and IT
  • Oversee cash-handling certification and compliance
  • Assist with accounts payable processing and vendor reconciliations
  • Prepare audit schedules for annual audits
  • Maintain visitor and program statistics
  • Maintain accurate and organized accounting files
  • Support special events as needed
What We’re Looking For
  • Basic knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional systems
  • Experience in cash handling
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, managers, and volunteers
  • Associate degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
Preferred
  • Experience in receipts management and cash handling
  • Hands-on experience with payables and receivables
  • Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems
