About the Role

Bittel Books & Taxes is seeking an experienced Accounting & Compliance Coordinator to join our bookkeeping and compliance team while serving as a trusted financial advisor to our clients. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys accounting and tax work, thrives in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, and wants to play a key role in helping small businesses grow.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting knowledge with the ability to analyze financial performance, identify issues proactively, and communicate insights clearly to both clients and staff. This person will oversee bookkeeping quality, review financials, mentor team members, and help clients better understand the story behind their numbers.

This is a coordinator role with significant autonomy and opportunity for impact.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Oversight

  • Review monthly and quarterly bookkeeping completed in QuickBooks, Xero, Wave, and other online accounting platforms for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification
  • Analyze financial statements and identify trends, inconsistencies, cash flow concerns, and opportunities for operational improvement
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end close processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Maintain integrity of accounting systems and financial reporting processes
  • Understand and apply both cash and accrual basis accounting principles
  • Assist with clean-up and catch-up bookkeeping projects when needed
  • Oversee payroll compliance, sales tax filings, Forms 1099/W-2, and related compliance reporting
  • Support tax preparation teams by ensuring books are tax-ready and identifying potential tax issues or planning opportunities

Advisory & Client Management

  • Serve as a financial advisor and primary point of contact for select clients
  • Help clients understand business performance through financial analysis and reporting in one-on-one quarterly meetings
  • Communicate proactively with clients regarding deadlines, outstanding items, and financial concerns
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships through responsiveness, professionalism, and strategic insight
  • Participate in process improvement discussions and operational consulting for clients when applicable

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Coordinate, mentor, and supervise bookkeeping and accounting staff
  • Review team work-product and provide coaching, training, and constructive feedback
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings and support staff development
  • Coordinate internal workflow, delegation, and project management to ensure deadlines are met
  • Develop and improve internal procedures, documentation, and workflows
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and solutions-oriented team environment

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in public accounting or client accounting services
  • Strong QuickBooks Online experience required
  • Experience reviewing bookkeeping and financial statements for multiple clients
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls
  • Familiarity with payroll tax, sales tax, and year-end compliance reporting
  • Tax knowledge or experience working alongside tax preparation teams strongly preferred
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable in a growing small-business environment
  • Ability to work within a remote environment and have accessibility during M-F standard business hours

Pay: From $52,040.43 per year
