Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and strategic Accounting & Finance Manager to help

strengthen the financial foundation of our agency. This role offers a unique opportunity for

an experienced accounting professional to take ownership of financial operations while

helping leadership gain clear visibility into profitability, cash flow, and long-term growth

performance.

This position goes beyond traditional bookkeeping. The right candidate will help improve

financial processes, enhance internal controls, and support leadership with actionable

financial insights that guide business decisions. As the agency continues to grow, this role

offers a defined path toward advancement into a Director of Finance position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and timely general ledger reporting through reconciliations and strong internal controls.
  • Monitor the agency’s cash position including deposits, account balances, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable to safeguard revenue and maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Ensure accurate payroll processing and required remittances.
  • Reconcile commission income and ensure accurate reporting of agency revenue.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.
  • Identify trends, variances, and discrepancies and communicate insights to leadership.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures for financial processes.
  • Partner with the agency’s external accounting firm on year-end financial reporting and tax preparation.
  • Ensure surplus lines taxes and regulatory filings are completed accurately and on time.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve internal controls to reduce financial risk and increase efficiency.
  • Support financial analysis related to agency growth, profitability, and operational scalability.
  • Administer the agency’s 401(k) program and coordinate with plan providers.
  • Serve as a backup contact for minor internal technical issues and coordinate with the agency’s IT provider when needed.

Growth Path

As the agency continues to expand, this role is designed to evolve into a Director of Finance

position. Future responsibilities may include ownership of budgeting and forecasting,

development of financial dashboards and performance metrics, participation in strategic

planning, oversight of compensation modeling, and leadership of future accounting or

administrative staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong accounting or finance experience with responsibility for financial reporting and reconciliations
  • Experience preparing financial statements and analyzing business performance
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate financial insights clearly to leadership
  • Ability to build and improve financial systems and processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Insurance accounting experience
  • Experience working with AMS 360 agency management system
  • CPA or advanced accounting certification
  • Experience supporting growing organizations or scaling financial operations

Work Arrangement

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement with time split between remote work and

in-office collaboration at Avery Insurance’s Wolfeboro or Portsmouth, New Hampshire

offices.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
