Who We Are
Accountally is a boutique bookkeeping and accounting firm that helps small and mid-sized businesses get clear on their numbers. We're a remote-first team built on a culture of accuracy, ownership, and genuine care — for our clients and for each other. We do things right, we document how we do them, and we're always looking to get better.
We're growing, and we're looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to lead our Staff Accountant team — someone who knows what exceptional client service looks like in a bookkeeping and accounting firm, and who's ready to deliver it every day while building a high-performing team around them.
The Role
As Accounting Manager of the Staff Accountant team, you'll lead a team of Staff Accountants serving complex, higher-touch client engagements. You'll be the person clients call when they have questions, the person who ensures every deliverable is accurate and on time, and the leader your team looks to for guidance and support.
This role is built for someone who has grown up in a bookkeeping or accounting services firm and understands what it means to truly serve a client — not just deliver reports, but build relationships, anticipate needs, and communicate with clarity and confidence. You'll bring that client-first mindset to everything you do, from how you manage your team to how you represent Accountally on every client interaction.
What You'll Do
Client Communication & Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all client communication within your team
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients — proactively communicating on deliverables, deadlines, and any issues that arise
- Lead client onboarding conversations and set clear expectations around scope, timelines, and process
- Handle escalations with professionalism, empathy, and a solutions-first mindset
- Represent Accountally with the polish and responsiveness that keeps clients confident and loyal
Team Leadership
- Directly oversee a team of Staff Accountants in a fully remote environment
- Conduct regular check-ins, provide coaching and feedback, and support each team member's growth
- Monitor utilization and ensure hours are tracked and managed within each client's scoped engagement
- Onboard and train new Staff Accountants on Accountally's workflows, tools, and standards
Quality Review
- Review client-facing deliverables — financial statements, reconciliations, month-end close packages — before delivery
- Identify and address errors or inconsistencies, coaching team members through corrections
- Maintain a consistently high standard of accuracy across all accounts
Process & Workflow Development
- Own and continuously improve workflows and SOPs
- Identify recurring issues and develop systematic solutions
- Collaborate with the Director of Accounting to share learnings and align on firm-wide standards
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 5+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity
- Prior experience in a bookkeeping or accounting services firm is strongly preferred — you understand the rhythm of monthly close, multi-client management, and what client service means in this industry
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and/or Xero
- A confident, polished communicator who takes genuine ownership of client relationships
- Proven ability to manage client expectations, navigate difficult conversations, and keep clients informed and confident
- Experience reviewing and approving financial deliverables for accuracy
- Strong leadership instincts — you develop your team, not just manage them
- Highly organized with exceptional follow-through
- Based in or commutable to Charleston, SC (in-office role)
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Experience in a multi-client accounting firm or bookkeeping practice
- Familiarity with Bill.com, Gusto, and other U.S.-facing accounting platforms
- Experience building or documenting SOPs and internal processes
What It's Like to Work Here
- In-office in Charleston, SC — be part of a team that's building something great together
- A small, collaborative team where your leadership directly shapes client outcomes
- Clear expectations, documented processes, and a leadership team that's invested in doing things right
- A culture of honesty, precision, and continuous improvement
- Real growth potential as the firm scales
