Tonkon Torp LLP is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the firm’s day-to-day accounting operations and support accurate, timely financial reporting. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for managing the month-end close process, overseeing reconciliations and trust accounting activities, and ensuring compliance with firm policies and regulatory requirements.

This position performs a combination of hands-on and supervisory accounting work, including general ledger oversight, financial reporting, payroll review, cash management, and process improvement initiatives. The Accounting Manager also serves as a key resource for resolving discrepancies, supporting audits, and maintaining strong internal controls across accounting operations.

This is a key operational role for a detail-oriented professional who can manage complex accounting functions, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively with attorneys, firm leadership, vendors, and staff in a fast-paced environment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial reporting
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger activity, including complex and non-routine transactions
  • Oversee bank, operating, and trust account reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are identified, researched, and resolved promptly
  • Manage trust accounting activities and help ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and IOLTA requirements
  • Review payroll activity, electronic funds transfers, payment runs, and other cash disbursements in accordance with firm policies and internal controls
  • Support management and board-level financial reporting, including variance analysis and partner-related reporting
  • Assist with audits, tax preparation, regulatory reporting, and related documentation requests
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, workflows, reporting accuracy, and internal controls
  • Collaborate with the accounting team and firm leadership on operational improvements and special projects
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and backup support for key accounting functions, including trust accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and cash management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including complex accounting and reconciliation work
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end close processes
  • Experience with trust accounting, general ledger systems, and financial reporting
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and sound judgment in handling confidential financial information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The position involves sitting or standing at a desk for long periods, frequent computer use, clear communication with attorneys and staff, operation of standard office equipment, and work in a professional office environment with ability to work under tight deadlines and multitask.
