Position Summary: The Accounting Manager oversees the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and supports the CFO in stewardship of organizational resources. This role manages a small accounting team and serves as a key contributor to budgeting, audit preparation, and financial process improvement. The ideal candidate is technically proficient, detail-oriented, and motivated by the mission of Christian nonprofit work.
Essential Functions:
o Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other transactional accounting functions.
o Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
o Review and support preparation of financial statements, internal management reports, and annual audit work papers.
o Maintain and monitor internal controls and ensure appropriate accounting policies and best practices are maintained.
o Optimize workflows within Sage Intacct.
o Supervise, develop, and mentor a team of three accounting staff.
o Ad hoc reporting and special projects as required.
Competency Requirements:
o BA/BS in accounting or finance required.
o 4–6+ years of accounting experience, including at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or review role.
o Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
o Proficiency with accounting software (experience with Sage Intacct a plus) and Microsoft Excel.
o Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
o Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate financial information for non-financial audiences.
o Personal alignment with WNG’s Christian mission; must be willing to sign WNG’s Statement of Faith as a condition of employment
