Accounting Manager / Controller

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager / Controller will be the primary hands-on accounting operator for monthly close execution, general-ledger activity, AP/AR supervision, recurring reporting, accounting documentation, and control discipline. This role supports the Director of Accounting & Human Resources and helps move the accounting function from reactive reporting toward stronger budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and owner-facing decision support.

Primary Responsibilities

§ Run monthly close, reconciliations, close documentation, reporting workpapers, and recurring general-ledger processes.

§ Prepare monthly property-level balance sheets, income statements, and rent rolls; coordinate quarterly AR reports, GL detail reports, AP aging, and budget-to-actual P&L packages.

§ Supervise AP/AR workflow, coding and approval discipline, vendor setup controls, collections follow-up, aging discipline, dispute documentation, and audit trails.

§ Support budget inputs, variance analysis, mid-year reforecasting, property-level explanations, JV reporting, and owner/principal-level reporting as assigned.

§ Document accounting processes, approval routing, close checklists, control points, reporting assignments, and recurring workflows so the department is more resilient and cross-trained.

§ Support Smart AP, workflow improvements, reporting automation, and practical AI/tool adoption while maintaining confidentiality, exception handling, and auditability.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of accounting experience; 4-5+ years in real estate, property accounting, AP/AR accounting, or multi-entity accounting is preferred.
  • Practical experience with monthly close, general ledger, reconciliations, AP/AR workflows, reporting packages, and documentation.
  • Experience managing people, supervising AP/AR workflows, or coordinating cross-functional accounting processes.
  • Strong Excel and accounting-system skills; willingness to learn workflow, automation, reporting, and AI tools.
  • Ability to handle confidential owner, company, tenant, vendor, lender, banking, employee, and financial information with care.
  • CPA designation is welcome but not required.

Preferred Background

  • Real estate, property-management accounting, family office, or multi-entity accounting experience.
  • Yardi or comparable property-management/accounting system experience.
  • Experience supporting property budgets, variance analysis, reforecasting, AP aging, AR aging, and owner/investor reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or equivalent practical experience preferred.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
