Accounting Manager-Nonprofit

Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accounting Manager specialized in nonprofit and governmental accounting to lead our financial operations. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all aspects of accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act). Your expertise will drive accurate financial reporting, effective cash management, and robust internal controls, empowering our organization to fulfill its mission with transparency and integrity. Duties

  • Manage the full spectrum of accounting activities including general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll processing using software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Prepare and review complex financial reports, including regulatory filings, financial statements, and management reports that highlight organizational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to nonprofit and governmental accounting standards.
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of internal controls aligned with SOX requirements to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to support budgeting processes and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations for financial transactions.
  • Develop and improve accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy across all financial operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Extensive experience in nonprofit accounting with a strong understanding of government funding sources and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Proven knowledge of GAAP, IFRS standards, SOX compliance, and public accounting practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in technical accounting concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, account analysis, and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; experience with financial management tools is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings effectively through written reports.
  • Experience managing cash flow, forecasting future financial needs, and executing sound cash management strategies.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in account reconciliation and regulatory reporting tasks.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $92,000.00 per year
