Humboldt Senior Resource Center is looking for a part-time, temporary Accounting Manager to work approximately 20 hours per week. We anticipate this assignment will last 3 to 4 months.
JOB SUMMARY: The Temporary Accounting Manager will provide short-term accounting leadership and operational support during a transition period. This role is responsible for reviewing the accounts payable process, coordinating month-end close activities, and preparing monthly financial reports for executive leadership and the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to work independently, familiar with non-profit accounting, and capable of quickly assessing and supporting accounting operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and oversee the accounts payable process to ensure accuracy, timeliness, compliance with organizational policies, and proper internal controls.
- Coordinate and manage the monthly financial close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and board reporting packages, including variance analysis and narrative explanations of financial results.
- Ensure financial reports are accurate, complete, and distributed within established deadlines.
- Monitor general ledger activity and maintain integrity of financial records.
- Assist in developing and improving accounting procedures, workflows, and internal controls.
- Partner with department leaders to gather financial information and support budget monitoring.
- Support annual audit activities and preparation of audit schedules and documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen accounting operations.
- Assist with special projects, financial analysis, and other accounting functions as assigned.

EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.

Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.

Experience coordinating month-end close processes.

Experience in preparing financial reports for executive leadership or boards, preferred.

Experience with non-profit accounting is preferred.

Experience with MIP or fund accounting systems is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position primarily performs sedentary work in an office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer, reviewing financial documents, and participating in meetings. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and operating standard office equipment is required. The employee must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and may occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or move items weighing up to 15 pounds, such as files, office supplies, or boxes of records. Visual acuity is required for reviewing detailed financial information and working on a computer screen for prolonged periods.
