About the Role
The Accounting Specialist supports the Finance Department across accounts payable, accounts receivable, ReStore operations, construction accounting, and general financial reporting. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financial records while partnering closely with multiple teams across the organization.
This is a mission-driven role where attention to detail, accuracy, and organization directly support affordable housing in Wichita.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable and Vendor Management
Process invoices, verify coding and approvals, and ensure timely payments
Maintain vendor records, W-9s, and compliance documentation
Support 1099 preparation, Kansas sales tax filing, and banking processes
Partner with construction staff on invoice processing and job costing
Accounts Receivable and Cash Management
Record and reconcile donations, reimbursements, and payments
Create invoices journal entries and support receivable aging
Assist with restricted funds and mortgage payment processing
General Accounting and Reporting
Prepare journal entries and monthly account reconciliations
Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedules
Support audits, financial reporting and internal controls
Record gift-in-kind contributions and other specialized entries
Construction and ReStore Support
Reconcile ReStore sales and deposits
Prepare job cost reporting for construction projects
Support Home Grant Loan processing and documentation
Collaborate with program teams on financial accuracy
Organizational Support
Support Finance Committee meetings and documentation
Maintain financial records and support audits and reporting needs
Assist with events and cross-departmental collaboration as needed
What We Are Looking For
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in all work
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Clear professional communication skills, written and verbal
Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office tools
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive data
Strong problem-solving skills and an accountability mindset
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
A strong application will reflect the same level of accuracy and care expected in this role
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience
1 to 3 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or AP/AR experience
Understanding of basic accounting principles and GAAP
Nonprofit or multi-program environment experience preferred
Work Environment
Hybrid role with required in-office presence for banking meetings, training, and events
Office-based work with occasional local travel to ReStore banks or construction sites
Full-time schedule, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week
