Job Overview

Valley Farmers Supply, a local cooperative since 1938, currently serves farmers, ranchers, homeowners, businesses and families in the communities of Reed Point, Worden, Custer, Hysham and Miles City.

The company’s Worden business office is seeking candidates for a full-time accounting/HR position. This will be a 40 hours per week/5 days per week position, with the possibility of additional hours required during certain peak seasonal business times. The ideal candidate should be flexible, detail oriented, possess a high level of initiative and discretion, and have a great attitude while always ensuring excellent customer service. Being able to effectively multi-task in a busy environment is essential. Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to): assisting with all aspects of accounting and HR functions within the company and working with/reporting directly to the CFO. This is a union position.

Responsibilities

  • Based out of our Worden office location – must be able to commute or relocate
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus a minimum of 3 years of experience in all aspects of accounting and office work, an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, with an emphasis on GAAP knowledge and understanding, accuracy and efficiency.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with fellow team members, customers, vendors and other business associates.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Prior experience using accounting software with special consideration given to cooperative accounting software experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
  • Work closely with the CFO and the CEO regarding financial reporting, metrics, HR situations, etc.
  • Desire to expand and grow within the organization
  • Physical ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in cooperative accounting with cooperative-specific accounting software
  • Previous HR experience
  • Previous experience working with outside auditors and required reconciliations and other preparation for an annual audit
