An Accounts Assistant provides crucial administrative and clerical support for a company's accounting department, handling daily tasks like data entry, processing invoices (AP/AR), reconciling bank statements, managing ledgers, handling petty cash, assisting with payroll/taxes, and maintaining financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance under senior accountants. Key duties involve managing financial documents, communicating with clients/vendors, and performing general office duties, requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with accounting software.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Receivable: Processing vendor invoices, preparing purchase orders, issuing payments, tracking expenses, and managing client billing.
Data Entry & Record Keeping: Accurately recording financial transactions, maintaining ledgers (sales, purchase), and organizing digital/physical files.
Bank Reconciliation: Matching bank statements with internal records to identify discrepancies.
Financial Reporting Support: Assisting senior staff with preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
Administrative Tasks: Answering phones, handling mail, responding to emails, and managing petty cash.
Compliance & Audits: Ensuring records meet company policies and assisting with audits and tax prep.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education: A degree in Accounting/Finance is favorable, but often training/apprenticeships suffice.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP) and MS Excel is crucial.
Soft Skills: Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
Knowledge: Understanding of basic accounting principles and procedures.
