Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced, strong leader to head the Accounts function at GIPL. The person will manage all accounting, financial reporting, taxation, audit & controllership for a large steel‑fabrication & galvanizing operation, dealing with manufacturing overheads, costing, inventory, material movements etc. The role will require team leadership, compliance, strong analytical skills, and capability to interact with senior management & external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee end‑to‑end accounting operations for multiple manufacturing units (Pondicherry etc.): General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Inventory Accounting, Fixed Assets.
- Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end financial closings and ensure preparation of accurate financial statements in compliance with Indian GAAP / IFRS or applicable standards.
- Ensure that manufacturing cost accounting (material, labour, overheads) is correctly recorded and analysed.
- Costing, Budgeting & Control
- Prepare annual budgets, periodic forecasts; monitor variances.
- Manage cost controls in manufacturing: cost of raw materials, energy consumption, direct & indirect labour, scrap/wastage, galvanizing process costs etc.
- Implement measures to improve cost efficiency and profitability.
- Taxation & Statutory Compliance
- Handle direct and indirect taxes: GST, Income Tax, TDS, Custom Duty (if applicable), and other statutory duties.
- Ensure timely filing of returns, ensure compliance with tax laws, coordinate with tax authorities.
- Audit & Controllership
- Manage internal audit and statutory audit processes; ensure audit queries are addressed.
- Maintain strong internal controls across financial processes, bank & cash transactions, inventory, fixed assets etc.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards (quality, environmental etc.) wherever related to financial & accounting processes.
- ERP, Systems & Process Improvement
- Ensure accounting & finance modules of ERP / MIS are maintained effectively, with clean data, reconciliations.
- Drive process improvements, automation of finance workflows, minimize manual interventions, reduce cycle times (closing, reporting etc.).
- Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, mentor and build a strong team of 5‑10 accounting professionals.
- Liaise with operations, production, procurement, quality etc. to get accurate cost / inventory / material data.
- Present financial reports, variances, risks & opportunities to senior management.
- Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
- Monitor receivables, payables, inventory turnover; recommend actions for optimizing working capital.
- Oversee bank relationships, fund flows, financing/loan compliance (if any).
Required Qualifications & Skills
- CA or CA‑Inter; full CA qualification preferred.
- 15‑20 years of progressive experience in accounting & finance, in a manufacturing steel / fabrication / galvanizing / heavy engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting, absorption costing, overhead apportionment.
- Hands‑on experience with finalisation of accounts, audit (statutory & internal), taxation, controllership.
- Good systems exposure: ERP based accounting; strong Excel skills.
- Excellent leadership, people management, communication & interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset with an ability to interpret financial data and derive actionable insights.
- High integrity, strong attention to detail.
Preferred / Desirable
- Exposure to international exports / overseas regulatory / customs accounting.
- Knowledge of ISO quality / environmental standards as related to finance quality controls.
- Experience with large scale galvanizing operations or steel fabrication costing will be a strong plus.
Performance Metrics
- Accurate & timely month‑/quarter‑/year‑end closings.
- Reduction in cost variances & improvement in cost to sales (or cost of goods sold) margins.
- Working capital metrics (inventory days, receivables, payables) optimized.
- Audit findings minimal and resolved promptly.
- Team performance: timely completion of tasks, upskilling etc.
