Activities Assistant / Transportation Driver

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, energetic, and dependable Activities Assistant / Transportation Driver to join our senior living community. This dual-role position is responsible for safely transporting residents to appointments, errands, and community outings while also assisting with the planning, coordination, and implementation of engaging activities that promote residents' physical, emotional, and social well-being.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with seniors, has a safe driving record, and is passionate about creating meaningful experiences for residents.

Responsibilities
Transportation Duties
Safely transport residents using facility vans, buses, or wheelchair-accessible vehicles for medical appointments, shopping trips, banking, pharmacy visits, community outings, and other scheduled destinations.
Assist residents safely in and out of vehicles, including operating wheelchair lifts and securing wheelchairs and Geri chairs.
Ensure resident safety, comfort, and dignity during transportation at all times.
Maintain transportation schedules, records, and appointment logs.
Assist with developing transportation routes based on resident needs and scheduled activities.
Maintain required vehicle documentation, including registration, insurance, maintenance, and repair records.
Ensure transportation forms and supplies are stocked in vehicles.
Refuel vehicles as needed and submit receipts according to facility procedures.
Perform daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns, accidents, or incidents promptly.
Assist departments with shopping needs, deliveries, and transportation-related errands.
Activities & Life Enrichment Duties
Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic activities for residents.
Conduct group and one-on-one activities that encourage engagement, socialization, and sensory stimulation.
Assist with transporting residents to activity programs and setting up activity areas.
Support activity outings and special events both inside and outside the facility.
Assist with purchasing and organizing activity supplies and materials.
Maintain activity participation records and progress notes as required.
Operate audio-visual equipment and other resources used during activities.
Foster a positive, engaging, and welcoming environment for all residents.
Respect resident rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
Additional Duties
Maintain an understanding of the challenges and needs associated with aging.
Follow all facility policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and in-service education programs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate Degree in Recreation, Human Services, Healthcare, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
Previous experience working with seniors, assisted living, healthcare, recreation, or activities programming preferred.
Valid driver's license with a safe driving record required.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Knowledge of assisted living operations and resident-centered care preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
Friendly, patient, energetic, and compassionate personality.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Ability to motivate and engage residents with varying interests and abilities.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
Ability to safely assist residents with mobility needs, including pushing wheelchairs and operating wheelchair lifts.
Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, balance, talk, and hear.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
Ability to safely use proper lifting techniques and body mechanics to prevent injury.
