The Activities Driver implements the transportation service primarily related to Recreation/Wellness events in the city of Winston-Salem and surrounding communities. Will act as an escort for residents when/if needed. Driver must be experienced in driving a 15 passenger bus.
Reports to the Wellness Arts Manager
Interaction with: Staff, residents, residents families, visitors, public, staff, volunteers.
Types of Communication: verbal, written, emails, direct/indirect from residents, residents families.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides safe and timely transportation for residents to and from scheduled community events, assisting them as needed with entering and exiting vehicles and transitioning to and from campus or designated locations in accordance with established safety guidelines and training
Maintains accurate transportation logs, and attendance documentation as required, and follows established procedures to ensure all residents transported off campus return safely.
Conducts routine vehicle safety checks before and after trips, and promptly reports any vehicle problems, malfunctions, or low fuel to the Wellness Arts Manager or maintenance in accordance with organizational policy
Represents the Wellness Arts Department in all interactions with residents. Offers encouragement and support while providing transportation services.
Reports resident concerns, complaints, and any incidents that occur during an outing, including falls, medical events, or other emergencies, to the Wellness Arts Coordinator immediately in accordance with departmental procedures. In emergency situations during an outing, the driver must contact the Wellness Arts Coordinator at once. All incidents must be documented through an incident report and submitted promptly for appropriate departmental and clinical follow-up.
Perform any other duties/tasks that are assigned on an as needed basis by the Wellness Arts Coordinator or the Wellness Arts Manager.
Ability to bend, squat, raise arms above the shoulders and lift 40 lbs.
Ability to push/pull 180 to 200 lbs.

Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with older adults, staff, residents’ families, visitors, volunteers, and members of the public.
Ability to demonstrate a record of safe driving habits.
Ability to assist residents with mobility devices, including walkers and wheelchairs, and to safely secure wheelchairs using vehicle restraint systems as needed.
Ability to meet eligibility requirements for insurability under the organization’s vehicle insurance policy.
Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written, and electronic means with residents, families, staff, and community partners.
Ability to perform essential mental functions, including reading comprehension and to work effectively under moderate levels of stress.

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of six months of experience in a transportation support role or as a transportation driver is strongly preferred.
Experience operating a 15-passenger bus is required.
License and/or Certifications
Valid North Carolina Driver’s license.
Ability to successfully complete the program of orientation to operate the 15 passenger buses, van, the wheelchair bus and the wheelchair vans.
Commercial Driver's License is NOT required.
