Addiction Medicine Physician Inpatient Detox/Res Treatment Facility

Overview
We are seeking a Board-Certified Addiction Medicine Physician to serve as Contract Medical Director for its behavioral health programs, including Inpatient Detox/Residential SUD program. This is a 1099 contract, hybrid leadership role requiring on-site presence once weekly to support clinical operations, staff oversight, and regulatory compliance.

Duties

  • Provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for patients in Detox/Residential SUD levels of care.
  • Maintain on-site presence a minimum of one (1) day per week to support nursing and clinical staff, and ensure quality of care.
  • Serve as Medical Director overseeing all medical services across programs, ensuring alignment with state, federal, and accreditation standards.
  • Supervise and collaborate with Nurse Practitioners in accordance with Florida state regulations, including chart review, case consultation, and clinical guidance.
  • Review, co-sign, and ensure timely completion of all required documentation in the EHR (admissions, progress notes, orders, discharges).
  • Provide oversight of detox protocols, including CIWA/COWS management, medication tapers, and withdrawal safety practices.
  • Approve, develop, and maintain medical and medication-related policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and care planning as needed.
  • Attend and contribute to quarterly Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement meetings and support audit readiness (CARF, Joint Commission, state).
  • Be available for remote consultation outside of on-site days for urgent clinical needs or provider support.
  • Support staff education and training related to psychiatric care, withdrawal management, and best practices in behavioral health.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with Board Certification in Addiction Medicine.
  • Active, unrestricted California medical license and DEA registration.
  • Professional liability insurance with minimum coverage of $1,000,000/$3,000,000.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in behavioral health, addiction medicine, or similar setting (leadership experience preferred).
  • Experience working in detox, residential, or inpatient psychiatric settings strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ASAM criteria, withdrawal management protocols, and psychiatric best practices.
  • Ability to work independently as a contractor while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.

Pay: $5,000.00 per month

Work Location: Hybrid remote in San Diego, CA 92102
