Addiction/Behavioral Health Counselor Job Description

Job Responsibilities

· Conduct initial assessments and evaluations

· Develop and implement individualized treatment plans

· Provide individual sessions

· Maintain accurate and confidential client records

· Collaborate with other healthcare professionals for comprehensive care

· Offer crisis intervention and support

· Educate clients and families about mental health issues and coping strategies

· Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed

· Participate in professional development and continuing education

· Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards

· Advocate for client needs and resources

· Utilize evidence-based practices in therapy and intervention

Job Skills

· Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field

· Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) or equivalent certification

· Preferably a minimum of 2 years of experience with chemical dependency and/or dual diagnosed clients, preferably in an out-patient setting

· Experience in a clinical setting

· Specialization in areas such as substance abuse, trauma, or family therapy

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems

· Bilingual skills is a plus

· Knowledge of community resources and referral processes

· Minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health counseling

· Strong understanding of psychological theories and practices

· Excellent diagnostic and assessment skills

· Strong ethical and professional standards

· Ability to manage case files and documentation

· Strong organizational and time-management skills

· Empathy and compassion in client interactions

Qualifications

Preferred Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) or equivalent certification with 2+ years in experience of full-time related work experience. Strong organizational skills are needed as well as the ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
