Department Philosophy on AI Integration:

The Division of Professional Studies has adopted a structured approach to integrating generative AI across the business curriculum using the Pledge-Turn-Prestige scaffolding framework paired with the TRACE evaluation method:

  • Temporal anomalies
  • Repetitive patterns
  • Absence of errors
  • Citation irregularities
  • Engagement deficit

The division’s philosophy is grounded in three core commitments:

  • AI as a tool to enhance—not replace—student thinking: Students should graduate as professionals who can leverage AI effectively while maintaining critical judgment.
  • The “Junior Gap” principle: Students must understand foundational economic concepts manually before automating analysis with AI.
  • The Human Value-Add: In every AI-assisted assignment, students must articulate what they contributed that AI could not.

Faculty are expected to embrace this philosophy, model responsible AI use, and design assignments that develop both AI literacy and uniquely human skills such as critical thinking, ethical reasoning, cultural understanding, and professional judgment.

Robust AI instructional support is provided to adjunct faculty, including:

  • Onboarding consultation with the Director of Learning Systems & AI Initiatives
  • Access to the BoodleBox platform and division-wide AI tools
  • Membership in the AI Faculty Group for peer collaboration, sample assignments, and shared best practices
  • Course-specific guidance on the appropriate AI scaffolding level based on the assigned course

Faculty are not expected to arrive as AI experts; they are expected to arrive curious, open, and willing to learn alongside the Bethany team.

  • Conduct class sessions as scheduled.
  • Develop and distribute syllabi that are approved and fulfill course requirements, including a clear AI use policy aligned with division standards.
