About the Role

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is seeking a suitably qualified academic to teach RESH 900 - Fundamentals for HDR Writing, a core subject in the PhD program.

RESH 900 is designed for first year Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates and supports students as they undertake their first major piece of doctoral level writing, a key milestone in the early stages of their research candidature.

The successful candidate will guide HDR students in developing academic writing capability, critical engagement with the literature, and confidence in scholarly communication in English, within a business research context.

Key Responsibilities:

The appointee will be responsible for:

  • Teaching and coordinating RESH 900 - Fundamentals for HDR Writing within the PhD program
  • Supporting first year HDR candidates in developing their initial major research writing relevant to their PhD project
  • Assisting students to:
    • Quickly locate and evaluate high quality academic literature
    • Critically read, analyse, and discuss literature in relation to a defined research topic
    • Synthesise scholarly sources to build a coherent academic argument
  • Guiding students through structured processes for writing key research components, including:
    • Methodology related writing
    • Academic framing and scholarly argumentation
  • Supporting students to improve the organisation, clarity, and coherence of their written work, including:
    • Revising and refining paragraphs
    • Addressing grammatical and stylistic issues at sentence level
  • Assisting HDR candidates to develop confidence and proficiency in written academic English, particularly in a research intensive context
  • Helping students design and develop coherent, discipline specific literature reviews aligned with their current stage of PhD candidature
About You

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A completed PhD
  • Academic research experience in Business or a closely related discipline
  • Experience supporting or teaching HDR / PhD level research writing
  • Demonstrated expertise in academic writing pedagogy and research communication
  • High level proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to work effectively with HDR candidates from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds
  • Experience teaching doctoral level research or writing subjects
  • Familiarity with HDR candidature milestones (e.g. proposal or confirmation writing)
  • Experience supporting research students writing in English as an additional language
