Administrative Assistant

ROC Overview: The ROC (Rebuilding Opportunities in Construction) provides construction-related skills training, job-readiness, apprenticeships and permanent job placement for Charlotte area high school students. The ROC currently has 2 pathways (ROC-College and ROC-Direct), operating in 3 training facilities, and currently serving over 200 high school students from 6 Charlotte area high schools. The ROC engages selected 11th and 12th grade students in electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and construction management. All students receive job readiness and soft skill training as well. Students come to our facilities for 1-2 class periods each day and are placed in paid summer internships in their 11th and 12th grade summers, many leading to full time jobs. Our programs provide critical support to students to minimize barriers to success early on in their careers. Joining The ROC team is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to expand their community impact on young students, collaborate with the construction industry, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) and Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC). This is also an opportunity to be part of expanding both the ROC-College and ROC-Direct programs, and to be an integral part of the development of a skilled construction workforce in Charlotte.

The Position: The ROC is seeking an Administrative Assistant to support The ROC’s Executive Director, and other areas as needed. The ideal candidate is highly organized and is comfortable with the fluidity and change that is part of a growing organization focused on developing the future workforce. As a smaller program, this role is meant to fill in the gaps of our current positions, and directly impacts student support, that being the heart of The ROC’s ministry. It should be noted that our agency is accustomed to everyone pitching in and helping each other to carry out our mission.

Duties and Responsibilities (but are not limited to):

  • Maintaining organization of receipts, purchases, bills for each campus, working with accountant
  • Maintain ROC website and social media
  • Assisting Executive Director with grant applications and donations as needed
  • Assisting coordinators with duties as needed (filling in when absent, lunch pickup, attendance, opening building, student data, etc.)
  • Driving ROC van as needed for field trips, industry functions and selectively to / from partner high schools
  • Coordinating transportation for ROC summer internships through Lyft
  • Performing other administrative duties as necessary

Notes:

  • Flexible start date
  • There will be an Initial Review period 90 days from start date
  • Benefits: If position reaches Full time health insurance will be offered
  • Microsoft systems experience preferred
  • With The ROC being a student centered program, The ROC's preferred candidate would be someone who is comfortable being around and working with high school students.

Pay: $25.00 per hour
