Hammond Development Corporation (HDC) is a 501(c)(3) economic development organization dedicated to new business development and community revitalization in Hammond, Indiana. Since 1981, HDC has partnered with the City of Hammond to support a thriving environment where business owners and residents can succeed. The organization focuses on building technology-based businesses, promoting visual and performing arts, and advancing minority, women, and Hammond-based enterprises. HDC manages key local assets including the Hammond INnovation Center, The Hub of Innovation, the Indiana Building, and the Hammond Urban Enterprise Association, providing significant office and theater space along with training and funding for entrepreneurs. This work has helped train hundreds of entrepreneurs and support dozens of startups in the downtown Hammond area.
Role Description
The Administrative Assistant is a part-time, on-site role based in Hammond, IN, providing daily administrative support to HDC staff and programs. Responsibilities include managing phone calls, greeting visitors, scheduling meetings, and maintaining calendars and shared spaces. The role involves preparing documents, organizing files (digital and physical), and supporting data entry and basic reporting related to HDC initiatives and facilities. The Administrative Assistant will assist with clerical tasks for events and trainings, coordinate office supplies and mail, and collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations across HDC-managed locations. This position requires consistent on-site presence and a professional, service-oriented approach to supporting internal staff and external stakeholders.

Candidates should possess professional Phone Etiquette and Communication skills for handling inquiries, greeting visitors, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.

Candidates should possess Executive Administrative Assistance capabilities, including scheduling, meeting coordination, and basic document preparation for leadership staff.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace) and comfort with basic data entry and online tools.

Ability to work on-site in Hammond, IN, maintain confidentiality, and interact respectfully with a diverse community of entrepreneurs and partners.

Prior experience in an administrative or office support role is preferred; familiarity with nonprofit or economic development environments is a plus.
