Overview
The Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police provides high-level administrative support to the Chief of Police and serves as a liaison between the Chief’s office and internal staff, town officials, and the public. This position requires discretion, confidentiality, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage a variety of administrative tasks with minimal supervision. The position is currently part-time with a range of 10-16 hours a week but possible to acquire more hours in the future as the department is expected to grow.
Responsibilities
§ Provides administrative support to the Chief and the Department including incoming and outgoing mailings, telephonic calls, scanning documents faxing and copying
§ Fields telephone calls, messages on answering machine. Answers inquiries independently.
§ Greets visitors to the office, answers questions or refers them to the chief or another officer when necessary.
§ Works with highly confidential and sensitive information.
§ Assists in preparation of the annual budget.
§ Required to make discretionary decisions as to whether a call warrants an immediate response.
§ Maintains filing system and record keeping system.
§ Relieve the Chief of administrative details and duties when requested.
§ Maintains calendar in a schedule of upcoming meetings, court cases, trainings ETC.
§ Updates to Police Department web page and participates in the town safety committee.
§ Checks/payments received for reports, fines, details are given to the Town Administrator.
§ Transcribes confidential electronically recorded interviews for case files.
§ Perform similar or related work as required/directed by the Chief of Police or as situation dictates.
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
