Mechanic I

Performs preventive and corrective maintenance at wastewater treatment plants and related facilities equipment on an assigned shift.

Position requires performing preventive and corrective maintenance on buildings, structures, grounds, machinery and equipment; lubricating equipment and checking for malfunctions; replacing packing in pumps or valves; replacing bearings in motors, pumps, and other equipment; tuning engines, setting valve clearance, cleaning, and adjusting regulators; aligning moving equipment; analyzing equipment failures to determine cause and to prevent recurrences; installing and seting up new equipment; cleaning out pipes and performing other plumbing and pipe fitting tasks as required; using gas and/or arc welding equipment to heat, cut, braze, or weld; and ability to read and interpret construction plans, prints, and specifications and electrical schematics.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, Welding experience required, five years experience in the maintenance and repair of engines, pumps, and other

mechanical and electrical equipment; possess a valid driverís license; and ability to enter data into a Computer Maintenance Management System.

Preferred qualifications include trade school education with an emphasis on electrical and mechanical equipment and metal fabrication; knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in the construction, repair, and operation of engines, pumps, and other mechanical equipment related to water/wastewater treatment plant operations and procedures; knowledge of the operations of internal combustion engines and electrical pump motors; safe work practices; experience with HVAC systems and boilers; knowledge of SCADA, PLC and VFD systems; and has training in OSHA required programs.
