Hourly/Part-Time/At-Will
Approx. 25-28 hours per week
Under general supervision, performs responsible work associated with the writing and distribution of public information materials through print, online media, video and graphics.

Assists in the promotion of the City's key projects, programs and services.

Prepares press releases, newsletter articles and correspondence.

Prepares informational materials relative to City functions.

Researches and analyzes technical and statistical data relative to departmental functions and programs, and makes recommendations.

Photographs the City's programs, services and functions.

Coordinates with external agencies and City departments to obtain information regarding programs.

Assists in updating information on the City's website and social media.

Provides general support to the department by answering and directing phone calls and taking messages as needed.

Adheres to City and departmental policies and procedures; performs related work as assigned.
Knowledge of: Public relations principles and techniques; strong writing skills; Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms; and general understanding of municipal government operations.
Ability to: Plan, write, edit and design municipal publications and informational materials; research, analyze and make sound recommendations; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact with staff, public, media and other agencies; and utilize quality customer service skills and techniques.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent, and some college level course work in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field is required. One year of experience in communications, journalism or a related field is preferred, but not required.
Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range. Consideration and approval for a salary higher than the first step is done on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants will be screened based on the qualifications for the job as described. Applications evaluated as best matching the needs of the City will continue in the selection process. The selection process may include any or all of the following: oral interview(s), a written or practical examination, a skills test, and an assessment center examination. The selection process may be changed as deemed necessary by the City Human Resources Office.
Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment requirements to include live scan fingerprinting and a medical examination as part of the Selection Process. Candidates who do not pass any portion of the above processes will be disqualified and removed from proceeding in the selection process.
