The Administrative Specialist in Classification maintains accurate and well-organized inmate records, calculates time, and engages in professional communication with local courts, other detention facilities, and the public.
General Description of Duties and Responsibilities
- Inputs electronic and paper inmate records into the jail management system.
- Engages in professional communication with local courts, other detention facilities, and the public concerning bonds, case statuses and dates, as well as finalized dispositions.
- Calculates inmate time served, credits, and release dates.
- Coordinates with local court jurisdictions to correct errors and obtain documents.
- Reviews records before inmate transfers to prison and supplies a list to the Transportation Department.
- Updates inmate classifications for various departmental reviews.
- Checks for court documents from the Booking department multiple times daily.
- Organizes and files inmate records.
- Prepares inmate information and participates in regular departmental meetings.

Experience and Educational Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Considerable work experience in an administrative support role.

- Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize appropriately in a fast-paced environment with varying noise levels.
- Safety oriented and willing to work around supervised inmates within a regional jail.
