TITLE: ADMISSIONS CLERK

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF NURSING

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Admission Coordinator, coordinate with hospitals, nursing homes, all other agencies and families to assist in the review of potential residents for admission to the Facility ensuring the best possible transition for those residents who are admitted.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with hospitals, nursing homes, and other agencies, as well as family members to coordinate admission to the Facility. Coordinates information on potential residents for Interdisciplinary team.
  • Assists the Admissions Coordinator in ensuring that all required paperwork is received relating to admission to the facility.
  • Assists the Admissions Coordinator in ensuring a smooth transition from previous to current level of care for each resident by securing equipment, communicating with Interdisciplinary team, unit staff, the resident, and their family.
  • Assists residents and families with the Admission process. Communicates with family members and caretakers regarding the needs of the resident and anticipated plans.
  • Provides family tours.
  • Identify appropriate responsible insurance.
  • Responsible for assisting in the initial setup of the resident chart and providing Admission packets to the nursing units.
  • Prepares paperwork and does the sign-in process with new residents or their responsible party. Ensures all paperwork is scanned into Electronic Health record and attached.
  • Is knowledgeable in Resident’s Rights and ensures resident privacy and dignity and helps ensure a safe, secure environment for all residents.
  • Completes annual In-service training requirements, maintains acceptable attendance, and dresses in accordance with Dress Code Policy.
  • Responsible for appropriate use of Facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste, and fraud.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee, and facility information.
  • Maintains statistical data and compiles reports in collaboration with the Admissions Coordinator.
  • Performs other duties and participates on various committees as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment with time spent occasionally in a resident care environment with minimal exposure to communicable diseases when using universal precaution methods.

Extended work day (beyond 8 hours/day) and/or weekend hours may occasionally be required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Computer and typing skills to include at a minimum data entry, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with insurance pre-certifications and coding preferred.
  • Filing and organizational skills.
  • Supervisory skills necessary to effectively manage assigned duties.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with all levels of healthcare personnel, effectively communicate with residents, families, and general public.
  • Mental ability to handle pressures related to meeting deadlines, completing paperwork requiring attention to detail, and dealing with concerns of staff and residents.
  • Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license.
